Architect, Entrepreneur, Designer of the Atlanta Beltline

Ryan Gravel - Backyard Designers

Architect Ryan Gravel had an idea that transformed the city of Atlanta. His graduate thesis which proposed a realistic and visionary transformation of old Atlanta rail-lines is the best template in living memory for the transformation of Los Angeles and other urban centers. We talk on how community engagement and action is the definition of an urban project, and the difficulties of a project at the scale and duration of a city, as well as the parallels of LA and AT.

Architect, Designer, Curator, & Educator

Karen Lohrmann - Walks in Los Angeles

Join me for a discussion with the amazing Karen Lohrmann. Karen combines her background in art and architecture with writing, teaching, editorial and curatorial projects.   She is cofounder of SdMKLm, producer at Urban States, Correspondents editor, initiator of Bay of Mars, and [former] program coordinator for the Master of Science in Design of Cities at the Southern California Institute of Architecture.

We talk about the actions being taken in LA to combat the climate crisis, and the rate of progress. We talk daily walks, urban exploration, organizing social events and education around walks, and even get to some furtive arugula foraging in Elysian Park. We get into what makes LA a unique place to be a designer, and what LA can learn from other places.
